PLANS FOR A TROPICAL BATHROOM UPGRADE & AND HOW IT'LL BE A SMART BATHROOM
I've been mulling over the original moodboard for my bathroom design plans over the past few days; partly because it's so important for me to get it right, but also because something just seemed amiss.
If you didn't catch my last post, it basically revealed my plans for going green and bold in my bathroom when it's renovated, and to really incorporate some gold glamour into a tropical decorative theme. I've seen the tropical theme across many different spaces, and in a variety of shapes and sizes too and it is one trend that never seems to go out of style. My inspiration for trying to combine this theme with a more contemporary, glamorous one comes from my inner desire to challenge the status (design) quo, and to really bring my personality to life in one of my favourite rooms throughout the house.
If you didn't manage to sneak a peek, I've included it here:
So in my mind, the closest match to what I anticipated my room would look like is the top left image. I wanted gold accents with emerald walls and some form of geometric monochrome tiles/ design involved too (which is best visualised in the images just under the top left one).
After putting this together, it made me realise how set I am on infusing the colour green into the overall design. I just love it and it works so well with gold. See for yourself:
Having said all of this, I now realise that I've not taken enough consideration into the following things:
1. There is no window in my bathroom, which means that natural lighting is significantly reduced.
2. You can make a statement in a small space without being overly extravagant
and 3. This needs to be the most relaxing room in the house as this is what the bathroom means to me.
SO WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
Good question! Basically, I hadn't thought this one out enough. I mean, yes, in theory, seeing the colours come together in the vision board reinforced my the fact that I want to see this come to life, but I definitely need to pay more attention to detail; after all, once it's done, it's done.
Luckily for me, I am still very much in the design phase and still need to work out my overall budget for the works. Being a keen DIY'er means that this is going to be a really exciting project for me. Yep! This is going to be very hands on for me, as I'm not the kind of lady that sits back with a cup of coffee whilst the builders get to do all the good stuff, oh no. I'll be helping to plumb in my new bathroom suite, as well as getting the paint brushes out (in hopes that I won't flood my house too- pray for me).
So, this brings me onto my new and improved vision board for the GLAM ROOM- which technically isn't my glam room, but I've said bathroom so many times that I'm actually sick of hearing the word.
OK,OK. WE GET IT. JUST GIVE US THE NEW MOOD BOARD ALREADY!
So this, my friends, is the final vision board that I'll be working with.
I'm not gonna lie, I'm obsessed with it. If there's anything that represents my style & personality, it's this.
So, you'll instantly notice a difference in how light the moodboard is compared to the other one; which made me realise that this may possibly also be the case once converted into the room. Instead of going for darker green tiles, I've decided that white (or possibly monochrome) tiling is the way forward for me. Not only does it just appear to bring out the space more, it will likely work better in my tiny bathroom that has no window or natural light source.
SO HOW WILL THIS NEW DESIGN WORK WITH MY DESIRE TO INCLUDE THE COLOUR GREEN?
Gosh, another very good question (and aren't I the tit for asking my own damn self!). Well, it's obvious really. Plants! Using plants to decorate a space is something I also want to do more of in my home, and in general. There really is a transformative energy around the moment you bring plants, flowers or any form of nature into the home, and in the bathroom it would really help to create that 'zen-like' feeling that I am looking. Like, seriously, who doesn't want to take a bath while in the tropics? I'll just have to throw on some exotic sounds, and BOOM, I'm in the Amazon.
There's still a possibility about getting some green on the walls, but I need to think this out in more detail. If I were to choose some colours to test, they would likely be something like (scroll right):
OTHER PRODUCT/ DESIGN ELEMENTS THAT I WANT INVOLVED
I wanted to give you a little summary of some of the products I want to contribute to the overall makeover. My favourite part after the during stages of renovation!
BATHROOM WALL TILES
BATHROOM FLOOR TILES
BATHROOM TOILET AND VANITY SUITE
The bath shower suite is one of the most exciting things to choose, because not only can you play with the shape, but you can choose the design for your panel finish too. Defo still at the drawing board with this one, but space permitting, I am likely to go with a P shape bath, inclusive of a large gold shower head fixing.
(SMART) BATHROOM MOOD LIGHTING
Ahhh! Yes, the mood lighting. I had another one of my many light bulb moments the other day when thinking about the overall feel in my bathroom. Seeing as lighting plays such a key role in setting and creating moods, why not go smart with my bathroom and incorporate the ability to change the colour and brightness of the light, and therefore adjusting based on my daily moods! Exciting things right? This is how you can do this too:
If you haven't already got a google home, Why not try the mini. It looks super cute and I plan on getting one myself. Or, perhaps you'd prefer Alexa?
BATHROOM WALL ART
Y'all know I had to add me some colour, and I am seriously considering these gorgeous prints that I came across on the NOTH website.
I'm also taking inspiration from the thousands of pictures on the internet that have already got it so right when it comes to bathroom decor, and I've included a few below just in case you're looking for some inspo yourself.
Whew! That was a whole loada design porn right!? I am so looking forward to getting started on this in the next few months. As I mentioned, my home renovations are taking place in a staged format because of time and budget restraints. But you know what they say; slow and steady wins the race.
I will keep you updated on any developments of course, and will do a before, during and after post (and possibly a vlog) throughout the whole process.
Hope you love it!
P.s, I cannot wait to get started on some DIY bathroom accessories too! All in due course boo thang.
P.ss, let me know what you think of my plans! Are you currently decorating/ redesigning your bathroom? I'd love to see. Get in touch with me babes!
