These 7 Things Will Make Your House Feel Like A Home

If you don’t feel as though your home is as warm or as comforting as it could be, then you are not alone. It can be very difficult for you to make your home feel cosy when you have no idea where to start. If you want to turn things around and give your home that little vibe shift that it needs, then read on…

Wake up your Walls with some Art

It is impossible for you to make your house feel like a home overnight. If your home is in pretty bad shape, then it will probably take more than an evening or two to shift the energy (and your mindset!). That being said, if you are dealing with bare walls, then it is possible for you to make an instant change here. One of the worst offenders when it comes to new properties is empty walls. Hang some art and you will soon find that your home looks way more put-together, and it can also add a lot of personality.. If you can, mix some of your larger pieces with smaller ones to get a bit of a gallery wall vibe going as this can turn an empty wall into a statement or focal point of the room in no time.

Dried Flowers and Plants

One quick trick that you can use would be adding some ambience via dried flowers or some plants. Foliage is your friend at the end of the day. The best thing about plants and greenery is that they are ideal if you want to rid your home of any bad toxins. Win-win in my opinion! Choose your plants carefully and take into account the intended location of them too. Vast expanses will benefit from bigger potted plants or even trees. If you have a bare tabletop, then this would be better with a fresh bouquet of flowers or even some succulents. When planning out your space, you have to remember that some plants will do better in direct sunlight when compared to others, so be mindful of your positioning if you can.

Consider Underfoot

Do you sometimes feel as though you have a bland or ugly floor that is sucking the life out of your home? If so, then why don’t you try and brighten things up by adding a rug? Little things like this don’t have to be expensive but they are ideal if you want to try and create a bit of warmth for your hard surfaces. Interesting designs can be found online. The only rule is for you to find a rug that fits in with your space. A rug that fits halfway under your furniture should be perfect.

Declutter

Everything should have its place. A lot of people believe that a tidy house is essential for a tidy mind. If you have countertops that are piled high with plates or if you have piles upon piles of laundry, then this will not work in your favour. If your humble abode doesn’t feel homely, then make sure that everything has enough space to breathe, and you will be able to work around this with ease.

Layer Lighting

Do you feel as though no matter how much you try and brighten your home, you still end up being stuck with a cold and uninviting room? If this is the case, then it is a good idea for you to try and change things up a little. This may sound simple but if you can layer your lighting and your light sources then you may find that it is more than possible for you to make your room feel warm and inviting. If you can soften the lighting in the room, then this will help out a lot too. Harsh lighting overhead can trigger feelings of angst and this is the complete opposite of what it is you are aiming for. Adding table lamps to your console table is a great touch if you have an entranceway or even a dining area, so try and be mindful of this as much as you can. Also, I cannot stress enough how important daylight bulbs are - and I swear by them. By all means use warm bulbs for ambience in the evening, but I cannot bare warm hues throughout the day, especially in spaces with no natural lighting.

Invest in your Lifestyle

When it comes to cosy living, it is vital to remember that comfort is key. What good is a nice couch, if it doesn’t give you the experience you are looking for? At the same time, day-to-day activities such as washing and even preparing meals should feel easy to do. A shower that is just short when it comes to water pressure will not be doing you any favours either. Shop around for any styles that work for you and put in the work to make sure that you are happy with the result you have achieved. If you can do this, then you will soon find that things end up working out. Nice smells can also go a long way when it comes to your home. If you are a coffee lover, then having some speciality coffee beans brewing away, for example, will ignite the senses in such a positive way.

Throws

Cushions and throws are one of the best ways for you to make your house feel like a home with minimum effort! Drape any soft blankets or even some chunky curtains around your home so you can give it that nice and inviting feel. Layer your sofas with two or three sizes of pillows and also mix up the texture as well. Little things like this can help you to make sure that your home oozes comfort and also work wonders for your decor overall. If you are stuck when it comes to the colour, then pick a colour that is in the room right now and then find something that complements that. If you can do this, then you will take a lot of the guesswork out of your décor, and you may even find that things come together much easier too.
