[GIFTED] PRE-LOCKDOWN FUN AT JUNKYARD GOLF CLUB

One of the many things on my bucket list this year was to visit/ take part in more quirky venues or experiences, and I’m so glad I got to have some fun at London’s coolest mini golf venue, Junkyard Golf club before we all went into lockdown.

Having moved to a brand new residence this year on Worship Street (nearest stations: Liverpool St, Moorgate, Old st) , this four course, multi-bar venue is home of some of the most CREATIVE putting courses and cocktails I’ve ever had, not to mention Neon lights and some punchy puns laced throughout the venue. Come to think of it, I’m craving a few of their fabulously weird ass cocktails now.

Anyway, if you want to know exactly what to expect at Junkyard Golf Club then read on…

Everything you need to know about your trip to Junkyard Golf Club

1.    Weekends are busy AF

I’ve visited JYG a few times now, all on weekends and I can tell you…it is busy AF! But if you’re like me and appreciate being around the buzz on a night out you’ll love the vibes here (I’m an extroverted introvert so mostly want to be left to my own devices, but sometimes crave a bit of CRAZY).

Something to note before you visit, buy your tickets online. It just saves you from queuing (the queues aren’t too bad but you might aswell save yourself the bother) and will give you a chance to hopefully secure your bits in the cloakroom (it’s definitely too hot in the venue to be lugging around coats/ bags or other unnecessary items. If you decide to purchase tickets on the night instead don’t sweat it, the team will offer the next few available slots and if you’re still waiting on someone (which I was) they’re super happy to be as flexible as they possibly can if you need to delay your time slot a bit.

Once you enter the venue you’re practically transported into a new dimension, where vibrant colours and neon lights dominate your new reality. To me, this is definitely heaven. I made sure my outfits were just as LOUD as the interiors so that I could take some sick pics and videos of the venue.

2.    The best golf course is...

Ok, so I can’t actually answer this one because I’ve only done a few of the courses: Gary, Pablo and Dirk. But of them all, DIRK was definitely my favourite.

One of my favourite parts of the DIRK course at Junkyard Golf was the ‘toilet ramp’ hole.

One of my favourite parts of the DIRK course at Junkyard Golf was the ‘toilet ramp’ hole.

DIRK is the newest of courses, having replaced the previous course BRUCE and was recommended to us by the lovely Nick who manages the venue (sick job- need any volunteers?). One thing they all have in common is that Neon vibes are a-plenty and some of them have a bar as you make your way around the course which is awesome as there can sometimes be a little wait to move onto the next hole (no longer than a few minutes usually).

The Pablo course is pretty cool too. You’ll put your way around the jungle, a building site and a Rihanna themed forest bathoom (SO SICK).

The Bozo course is pretty FREAKY BABY and a homage to one big wild carnival. This course is all about dark fairgrounds, circus freaks and twisted clowns.

And as for GARY, this was the first course I ever done and I absolutely loved it. We worked our way through towers of tyres, scrapped cars and mass auto junk and then putt on top of a mini, down a slide and into Gary’s UV Garage Rave (SO DOPE).

One of the things I love about this place is that it’s just such good vibes. I’m pretty outgoing and love meeting new people and this place is really great for bringing people together and connecting with new people at the same time. I regularly found myself in conversation with randoms, being offered drinks and sharing the sugary sweets that came in our cocktails so this place is perfect for you if you love one big sense of community.

Another thing to note is that each course has it’s own little music genre which is a nice touch. I can’t for the life of me remember what type of music was playing in each, but you’ll defo find R&B, Hip Hop, House etc in one of the courses, and the music in the main bar area is cool too.

4.    Perfect Selfie/ instagrammable spots

Needless to say, the ENTIRE venue is full of instagrammable photo opps from the moment you enter the doors until the moment you leave. Also worth mentioning is the Selfie Booth where you can create your own animated gifs and send them to your phone! (For free).

I didn’t find a single place inside that I didn’t want to take a picture…yes, including the toilets.

5.    The cocktail menu

Before I even get onto this menu, I just have to say that I think about these cocktails a LOT and now that the weather’s doing the most even more so. My fave cocktail on the menu is the Hotline Ting; a sexy combination of Wyborowa Vodka, Bubblegum, Cranberry, Lemon & TING. Each cocktail is also topped with their own complimentary retro sweets and I’m not gonna lie, I AM SO HERE FOR IT.

Don’t just take my word for it though! Sneak peak of the menu below.

7.    Prices

Ticket prices vary dependent on the day/slot you’re booking as I think they’re cheaper if you visit during off-peak hours. However, visiting on-peak on a Saturday night for example will set you back around £12.50pp which is pretty decent to be honest!

Of course, I’m not sure how things will look post corona so it’s worth checking their website (www.junkyardgolfclub.co.uk) for updates when they reopen.

All in all, a lively little venue to visit when you’re looking for something a little different to do with your people, or even as a work social. I’ll definitely be back at some point and look forward to hopefully visiting their other venues in Manchester, Oxford, Leeds and Liverpool some day!
